Updated: Jul 11, 2020

Situation now.

The coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new strain of coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019. Philippines, one of the high-risk nations from the Wuhan coronavirus flare-up, recorded the primary passing outside China. The administration has reported lock-down of Metro Manila, trailed by the whole Luzon island and is thinking about increasingly restricted lock-downs. The Philippines government announced a condition of disaster in the nation for a half year on 17 March.

Economic depression.

To this Covid-19 pandemic Philippines saw a more slow financial development in the primary part of 2019, compared with 2018. Many Filipino citizen loss their job, and some saved their job wherein they work at home so they can be safe from the corona virus and at the same time to fulfill the company needs. But now many companies have done a worker reduction so they can cut the bankruptcy rates.

Many Filipinos are suffering from being jobless, this is the reason why some of the citizens can't afford to buy their needs or pay their bills at the same time (no work no pay). The Government’s infrastructure program is facing further delays due to the quarantines (COVID-19) outbreak, as well as the repurposing of funds to contain the pandemic. While slower construction industry growth is seen this year as most activity is concentrated in areas affected by the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ). With strict ECQ measures imposed on Luzon, a large proportion of projects would have experienced stop work orders, leading to an unfavorable outlook for the Philippine buildings sector for 2020. Post-ECQ, construction activity will still face challenges such as supply chain especially if sourced from foreign markets and logistics and shortages due to the business activities disruption.
